Wood release

Wood release

The release for woods has both a right hand and left hand action. The right hand action is essentially the folding of the arm, wrist and hand on the backswing. In the backswing the right wrist folds back on itself, then the right elbow bends followed by a sideways waving movement of the right hand up and over your head. Remember that these elements go with your pivot and although effective are not working alone. Anything that bends or folds in the backswing is something taken out and therefore needs to be returned in the downswing so that the ball is hit squarely and at speed.

As the right hand releases through impact, the left hand plays a role also. The left hand release, rotates the club so that the clubhead moves to the outside and left of your left arm as you go into the follow-through. Important here is that the arm continues upward. By doing this a couple of times you will see that the shoulders are kept rotating in-plane through impact.
