Set – up

Fundamental 2 set-up

Essentially all of your shots will be played with the ball positioned closer to the left foot than the back foot.  The longer the club the more the ball should be taken by the left foot and the shorter the club the nearer the right foot.  On normal shots the ball will be best taken at a spot about midway between the centre and front foot.

For pitch shots I suggest that the ball be played around the centre. Overall best to remember that unless you want to hit a low ball under a tree branch play the ball nearer the front foot than the back.

Posture is formed by a counter-balance movement from a standing position. Move the hips backward while the shoulders go forward. Note how the shin bone from knee to ankle remains somewhat vertical. Do not bend the knees forward toward the ball. This type of knee bend is a common mistake.

For your spine; Trace up your back with your thumb. Identify this point on the spine. The base of your spine to this point should be relatively straight. Above the point to the base of the neck should have a natural curve. The iron board straight back from bottom to top of spine is not a good look and generally one to avoid.

Left arm hanging vertically down.

You could also use this method. Hold the club over your head and then down your back.                                                                             From this position bring the club back and down to the ground. As you ground the club you                                                                 will see similarities to the positioning of the first method.
