Bunker play

Bunker play

First of all, pin to your shirt the badge of courage and commitment. You are about to step into the bunker and you need to make up your mind that one-shot will get you out of trouble.

The stance should be slightly open, with the feet embedded in the sand. The eyes should be directed to the area of sand at which the clubhead is aimed.

The design of the sand iron allows the clubhead to skid just below the surface of the sand. By opening the face of the club at address, the rear edge of the club will strike the sand first, allowing it to skid just below the surface.

Take up your stance, face slightly open, look at a point one to two inches behind the ball and with an upright backswing bring the club into the sand from slightly above the ball. There needs to be sufficient swing force to carry it down through the sand and into the follow-through.  To hit the ball farther speed up the clubhead.
