Aiming the putter

Aiming the putter

A sound putting style is a requirement for good scores, but also in offsetting the strain of strenuous competition. Think about getting the putter squarely into the ball at impact. Begin by standing behind the ball and inspect the line the ball is to take.

To line up a putt place the putter back of the ball so that the toe point of the putter is even with the centre of the ball. This cuts the ball in half at a perfect right angle to the imaginary line. With the picture of the putt firmly in mind, step out with your feet squarely to the line.

Before stroking the ball, gently push the putter forward until its centre is directly behind the ball. The line established and the club-head in the proper position, the putt consists of keeping the angle of the hands in relation to your line the same during the stroke.
